Schemes
Wool Marketing Scheme
Sheep breeders belong to an unorganized sector who sell their wool in small volumes. In the present setup, they are compelled to sell their produce at prices dictated by traders. The prevailing system is less beneficial for breeders as the main share of profit goes to middlemen. Therefore, there is a need to procure wool directly from the breeders at a fixed price by State Govt. organizations, which will ensure better financial returns.
Human Resource Development & Promotional Activities
Indian handloom-made woolen products are in high demand in both domestic and international markets. Under this scheme, training will be imparted for skill upgradation in handloom/carpet weaving, knitting, and woolen product manufacturing, ensuring that India remains competitive in these markets.
Pashmina Wool Development Scheme
The aim of this scheme is to purchase raw pashmina wool directly from growers at a fixed price, preventing exploitation by middlemen. It ensures the availability of raw pashmina wool to manufacturers throughout the year at affordable rates.
Wool Processing Scheme
The woolen industry suffers from outdated processing facilities. This scheme aims to modernize pre-loom and post-loom processing to enhance the quality of finished woolen products, benefiting both the local wool industry and export markets. Establishing Common Facility Centers for wool processing will also create more employment and income generation opportunities.
